No, I’m not talking about eating a bag of skittles. Too bad, right? I am, however talking about eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables. And, since this month is National Nutrition Month®, we are celebrating!
Nutrition is simply obtaining the food necessary for health and growth. National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
As many of you know, my family and I recently vacationed in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. It was the first time we took our daughters out of the country, and they were spoiled with an all-inclusive resort and fun activities like zip lining and swimming with dolphins. Needless to say, we had a blast!
I probably maintained about a 70% nutrition compliance that week, (which wasn’t too bad for vacation), but when we got home, I had a harder time than usual getting back to the 90% compliance that I also coach my clients to aim for weekly for the best results. Basically, it came down to me just feeling GROSS! I had finally overdone it, and I was truly craving “real” nutrition again.
I’m guessing that some of you probably feel like this more often than not and maybe you don’t even realize how “gross” you feel because it has been so long since you really felt great.
Well, in honor of this annual celebration, my goal is to help you get on your way to feeling great. To do so, I am hosting the Rainbow of Health 4-Week Challenge, and it starts this week. There is still time to join in the fun. Just download the Flyer below to participate, and then head over to the Inner Fire Facebook Group for the challenge.
Here’s how it works:
Each week the goal is to eat one serving – each day – of a fruit/vegetable that is the “color-of-the-week.” I will be doing a drawing for two prizes for participating. One for the most activity submitted on your tracking sheet by April 4, 2017, and one for the most activity on Facebook with likes, posts, comments, and shares regarding your Challenge activity.
In line with my 2017 motto: Simplicity – I want to show you how realistic and sustainable getting more fruits and veggies into your diet truly can be. Just six or seven years ago, eating fruits and veggies was like speaking a foreign language to me. Slowly, I began to work more of them into my diet and now, I crave them when I don’t have them just like I used to crave sugar. It still weirds me out!
Take small strides. Once you take the first step the day one, and then the 2nd step the next day…you’ll be amazed at how quickly you will find yourself eating the rainbow without giving it a second thought. By getting a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables, you are guaranteed a diverse amount of essential vitamins and minerals. (disabled-world.com)
